President Muhammadu Buhari’s led Federal Government of Nigeria has directed that all Nigerian schools should remain closed across the country as part of the effort to contain the spread of coronavirus disease pandemic.

The Federal Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu gave the directive in a circular entitled ‘’ Management of Coronavirus Pandemic’’ signed by the Permanent Secretary to the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Sunny Echono.

Mr. Adamu Adamu warned that all schools at every level – nursery preschool, primary (elementary) grade, secondary (high) schools, colleges as well as higher education institutions should remain closed indefinitely until the containment development of COVID-19 shows the needed improvement.

The Federal Minister advised Nigerians to neglect fake news making the rounds on reopening of schools

The Minister of Education, through the circular, urged all education stakeholders – school children and students; teachers and educators; parents, among others to neglect the ‘fake news’ on the FG’s reopening of the school going round in the social media as the present health situation is under constant monitoring and necessary decisions and reviews would be communicated appropriately and duly.

Mr. Adamu Adamu, the Education Minister, had earlier sent the circular to the executive secretaries all federal agencies of the education ministry including National Universities Commission (NUC); National Board for Technical Education (NBTE); National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and to the Director, Basic and Secondary Education (BSE).

President Buhari’s led Nigerian federal government had closed schools in March following the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

As on the night of Sunday, Nigeria has a total of 4399 confirmed coronavirus infection cases throughout the states of the federation which has resulted in about 107 deaths – the 248 newly confirmed infection cases by Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) inclusive.
