Private and public primary and secondary schools in Anambra State will participate in the 2019 Governor’s Schools Debate Championship. Over 1500 schools will be involved
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha, said this while monitoring the preliminary stage of the competition at St. John of God Secondary School, Awka, for institutions in Awka South Local Government Area.
Prof Omenugha said one school would emerge from each of the six education zones of the state that would compete in the finals.
According to her, the competition with the theme: Sustaining the culture of dialogue in Anambra, will expose the participants academically and mould them into better scholars.
Omenugha further explained that the competition was an opportunity for the state to assess the performance of private and public school pupils.
As per her, “The discussion makes the chance to survey what we are doing, both out in the private and public schools and how positive the public schools are competing with their non-public schools alike .”We need Anambra to be the place we can send out HR, which is imperative. That is why we extended our tentacles to the private schools.
“Part of the dream is to have Anambra debate club so we can further train them and have enough to pool for any competition. While revealing that the competition was in partnership with Bring It On Africa, Omenugha noted that it was the second in the series and more robust and innovative. “We give opportunities to everyone to participate which was dependent on how proactive and determined the heads of the school are.
She expressed hope that the winners would represent the state excellently in external debates.
The Bring it on Africa Project Coordinator, Mr Onyedikachi Eneh, noted that the participants were being packaged to deliver on the technical aspects of the debate.
