Educationist says, UK Curriculum not better than Nigeria’s

The saying that British curriculum is superior to Nigeria’s version isn’t true, said an Educationist Mrs.Ann Oparah on Saturday. She, being a graduate of guidance and counseling, further said in an interview with (NAN) News agency of Nigeria, Lagos that there might be a little change in the teaching experience not in the curriculum itself.

Speaking with (NAN) on Friday  Oparah the proprietor of Brilliant Academy, Agege, Lagos elucidated that the importance of career Day in Brilliant Academy is for students to remain focused on their chosen career. The educationist said during the school’s career day that some parents and guardians try to influence their children and wards career even peer influence as well.

Having being in the field of school management for 25 years coupled with her experiences, she clearly said that choice of career ought to be done by the students through their own abilities and strong belief.

With reference to her experiences, the educationist claimed that that no curriculum is better than the other, having been practicing both curricula in her school. This means that the Britain curriculum does not supersede the Nigeria’s.

The educationist clearly noted that Nigerian curriculum is sketched to meet the needs of indigenous study which can stand the test of time even in abroad. She further hinted that those who were tutored by Nigeria’s curriculum can boldly compete with their counterparts over there in Britain with their excellent result speaking for itself.

Oparah said that it is only in international acceptance in acceptability that British Curriculum edges out Nigeria’s curriculum.

Finally, NAN explains the amateur attitude displayed by students during their presentations on the career Day showed lack of understanding of students on choice of career. They expressed their knowledge of career in the following course law, science based profession, engineering,  education and art and craft.
