Black and pink contaminants found in COVID-19 vaccines

 

Contaminants were found in Moderna Inc’s COVID-19 vaccines at a large-scale vaccination center in Japan’s Okinawa prefecture, resulting in the suspension of inoculations, according to NHK, a public broadcaster.

Black substances considered to be the contaminants were spotted in syringes and a vial, while pink substances were found in a different syringe filled with vaccines at the Okinawa center, NHK said.

The Japanese government has already halted the use of 1.63 million Moderna doses, shipped to 863 vaccination centers nationwide, more than a week after Takeda received reports of contaminants as a result of the reports on the presence of the contaminants, the Japanese government suspended The Okinawa vaccines which are from different Moderna lots.

Japan is battling its worst wave of infections, driven by the Delta variant, with new daily infections exceeding 25,000 this month for the first time.
