World Health Organisation (WHO) Europe director Hans Kluge has warned that a vaccine will not end the coronavirus pandemic as it could only help certain age groups of people, according to a media report.

World Health Organisation (WHO) Europe director warned that a vaccine will not end the overwhelming coronavirus pandemic.

The WHO’s Europe director Hans Kluge said it is not known if a prospective vaccine will help all age groups, warning of an increased death rate in October and November.

Kluge told AFP that the vaccine is not going to be the end of the pandemic, contrary to what he hears all the time. He said that we are not sure if the vaccine is going to help all population groups since we are getting some signs now that it will help one group and not for the other. He described the idea of ordering different vaccines to help different age groups as  ‘a logistical nightmare’

So far, coronavirus has killed more than 900,000 people and has battered the global economy driving millions of people out of work.

From Monday, the UK Government has enforced new laws forbidding groups of larger than six to meet together. Under some circumstances, including gyms and team sports, the rule does not apply.

Peter Openshaw, professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College London, said the UK is nosediving into a hard lockdown if it does not abide by the rules.

He said that they knew that these are very vulnerable pockets – not just in the younger people but now in people more vulnerable.

The professor of experimental medicine that they needed to act quickly since there are going to be inevitable hospital admissions and deaths. He warned against partying and said they should all be really thinking about what we can do now to slow down the spread of the virus.
