Try to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you need to be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or air-conditioned environments.
Fans can help circulate air, but air conditioning is more effective in reducing heat. If you don’t have air conditioning at home, consider spending time in public places like libraries or shopping malls.
Be aware of the symptoms of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Early recognition and treatment can prevent severe health outcomes.

Dr. Georges Benjamin, Executive Director of the American Public Health Association, highlights the role of community awareness and preparedness. “Communities need to be educated about the risks of heat waves and the steps to take to protect themselves. Public health advisories and heat action plans can save lives,” he says.
