Facebook’s new name change: Meta (Metaverse) is the hybrid of online social technologies

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta on 28th October, at Connect 2021, which brings together our apps and technologies under one new company brand, according to a report from Facebook’s Meta

Facebook’s new name, Meta’s focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.

Metaverse is described as the next evolution of social connection with a vision is to help bring the metaverse to life, so we are changing our name to reflect our commitment to this future.

Listen to Mark Zuckerberg share our vision for bringing the metaverse to life together.

What is the meaning of ‘metaverse?’

What is the meaning of metaverse? Metaverse means a virtual-reality space in which users can interact with other users in the same platform in a computer-generated environment. The metaverse is in essence the internet in 3D, an online world in which people can meet, play and work virtually, often using virtual reality headsets. According to the verse, “The Metaverse is an expansive network of persistent, real-time rendered 3D worlds and simulations that support continuity of identity, objects, history, payments, and entitlements, and can be experienced synchronously by an effectively unlimited number of users, each with an individual sense of presence.”

From 2D Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Whatsapp to 3D Immersive Metaverse

When the internet technology social media giant was newly launched in 2004 with the name Facebook, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology.

3D spaces in the metaverse will let you socialize, learn, collaborate and play in ways that go beyond what we can imagine.

Users can share immersive experiences with other people they can’t do physically

The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will let you share immersive experiences with other people even when you can’t be together — and do things together you couldn’t do in the physical world. It’s the next evolution in a long line of social technologies, and it’s ushering in a new chapter for our company. Mark shared more about this vision in a founder’s letter.

Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, get entertained and grow businesses.

The annual Connect conference brings together augmented and virtual reality developers, content creators, marketers, and others to celebrate the industry’s momentum and growth. This year’s virtual event explored what experiences in the metaverse could feel like over the next decade — from social connection to entertainment, gaming, fitness, work, education, and commerce.

Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram also announced new tools to help people build for the metaverse, including Presence Platform, which will enable new mixed reality experiences on Quest 2, and a $150-million investment in immersive learning to train the next generation of creators.

New name Meta bring the Family of Apps and Reality Lab and not change corporate structure

Our corporate structure is not changing, however, how we report on our financials will. Starting with our results for the fourth quarter of 2021, we plan to report on two operating segments: Family of Apps and Reality Labs.
