Purpose:

Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (FETA) Program Awards places recent college graduates and young professionals as English teaching assistants in primary and secondary schools or universities overseas – improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing the U.S. student’s own language skills and knowledge of the host country. ETAs may also pursue individual study/research plans in addition to their teaching responsibilities.

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FFLTA) Program Awards provides young teachers of English as a Foreign Language the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and broaden their knowledge of American cultures and customs while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at colleges and universities in the United States.

Amount Awarded/Worth:

The award includes round-trip international airfare, a monthly stipend, health benefits, and tuition assistance for coursework at the host institution.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (FETA) program award, the applicant must:

Hold at least a bachelor’s degree by start of grant. Applicants who hold a doctorate are ineligible.
Have sufficient proficiency in the host language to carry out the project required.
Meet country-specific eligibility and requirements.
Not be a U.S. Department of State employee or an immediate family member of a U.S. Department of State employee or an employee of an agency under contract to the U.S. Department of State to perform services related to exchange programs.

Have completed undergraduate education and hold a degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.

Requirements:

Study Program Awards and Periods:

Participants assist in teaching language courses at U.S. colleges and universities and may take courses for professional development. The study period typically aligns with the academic year in the U.S., beginning in August/September and ending in May/June.

Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (FETA) Program Award 6 months – 1 year and Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FFLTA) Program Award for 1 academic year.

Duration:

6 months – 1 year for FETA and 1 academic year for FFLTA

How to Apply:

Interested applicants must apply through the Fulbright Commission/Foundation or the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in their home country or online through foreign.fulbrightonline.org. The application process generally includes the following steps:

Selection Criteria:
