One of the latest study reports says drinking too much coffee can shrink the brain and help cause Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

According to the study, those who drank more than six cups of coffee a day had a 53% higher risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease, where dementia symptoms gradually worsen over a number of years. In its early stages, memory loss is mild, but with late-stage Alzheimer’s, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment.

Dementia is a syndrome in which there is deterioration in memory, thinking, behavior, and the ability to perform everyday activities. Dementia is said to kill one slowly—leaving you exposed first to years of humiliation, and vulnerable to neglect and abuse before terminating your life. So, our healthy lifestyle and wellness living should concern us so much.

The higher coffee consumption was significantly associated with reduced brain volume — essentially, drinking more than six cups of coffee a day may be putting you at risk of brain diseases such as dementia and stroke, according to lead research Kitty Pham, a doctoral research candidate at the University of South Australia.
