Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Make sure you have all the essentials in one place. Let the kids pick out their favorite colors for the wallet’s outer cover and lining. Encourage creativity!

Step 2: Measure and Cut the Cardboard Paper

  • Using the ruler, measure a rectangle that’s about 7 inches by 4 inches (feel free to adjust the size depending on how big or small you want the wallet to be).
  • Carefully cut the cardboard. This will be the base of the wallet.
  • Tip for Kids: If you’re using recycled cereal boxes, flip them over to the plain side to avoid distractions from logos.

Step 3: Fold the Cardboard Paper in Half

  • Take the cut-out cardboard and fold it in half horizontally, so it looks like a mini book. Press firmly along the crease to get a sharp, neat fold.
  • This will serve as the wallet’s basic shape, mimicking the way an adult wallet folds.

Step 4: Create the Paper Lining

  • Choose a piece of colorful origami or construction paper to line the inside of the wallet.
  • Measure and cut this paper to fit the interior of the folded cardboard (it should be a little smaller than the cardboard to leave a neat border).
  • Use the glue stick to attach the paper to the inside of the folded cardboard. Let it dry for a few minutes.

Step 5: Fold and Create Pockets

Now, it’s time to add some pockets!

  • Cut two small rectangular pieces of paper (about 3 inches by 1.5 inches each). These will be the inner pockets.
  • Apply glue to the left, right, and bottom edges of the rectangles (leave the top part unglued to create the opening of the pocket).
  • Stick the pockets onto both sides of the wallet’s inside. Press firmly to secure the edges.
  • Bonus Tip: For a more interactive wallet, add mini pockets or a “coin compartment” using smaller pieces of paper.

Step 6: Add a Fun Closure (Optional)

  • Want to make the wallet feel more real? Add a simple closure using a small Velcro dot or a button with an elastic loop. This will make the wallet snap shut like a pro!

Step 7: Time for Decoration! (Optional)

Let the creativity flow!

  • Use markers, stickers, or even googly eyes to personalize the wallet. The more unique, the better! Kids can decorate the outside with their name, drawings, or cool patterns.
  • You can even glue some embellishments like glitter or tiny beads for extra flair.

Step 8: Fill It Up

Your cardboard wallet is now ready to go! Have fun filling it with pretend play money, drawings, or secret treasures. It’s not just a craft—it’s a special little storage space!

Why Kids Love This Craft

  • Boosts Creativity: From picking colors to personalizing the design, kids get to express themselves in every step.
  • Teaches Basic Origami and Craft Skills: Folding, gluing, and cutting all enhance fine motor skills.
  • Hands-On Fun: It’s interactive! Once the wallet is done, it can be used in imaginative play for hours.
  • Eco-Friendly: Made from recycled materials, this project teaches the importance of reusing everyday items in fun ways.
