The first and only Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved eye drop for treating blurry near vision hit the market this week after getting approval in October.
The life changer eye drop, Vuity is the first eye drop for sharpening near vision could replace reading glasses be a game-changer for over 510 million people who suffer from blurred near vision and struggle to see up close (presbyopia), according to Vision Atlas.
The eye medicine improves vision for up to six hours at a time and is a potential alternative to reading glasses
According to the American Optometric Association. Presbyopia, or age-related blurred near vision, typically affects people between the ages 40 and 61 and the an earlier estimation from International Centre for Eye Health suggests the condition affects almost half of US adults.
The new eye medicine is meant to be used once a day cannot only improve vision for up to six hours at a time but offers a potential alternative to reading glasses for the age group 40 and 55 years of age.
Vuity drop causes the pupil to constrict, providing up to 6 hours of improved clarity. It works by causing the pupil to constrict, which naturally allows the eye to focus at different ranges.
A report wrote that Vuity spokesperson told a media report that the eye drops will work best for people between the ages of 40 and 55 – the age group most likely to notice the onset of near vision loss.
That age group comprised two clinical trials roughly 15 minutes after administering one drop of Vuity in each eye of each of 750 participants in the clinical trials produced an effect where each of them could see three additional lines on a reading chart.

The Side Effects of the Eye Drop
Side effects detected during the three-month trial period included headaches and red eyes, and some users had difficulty adjusting their focus between near and far objects. The drops are not meant to be used for night driving, although after application in the clinical trial, they worked in low-light conditions for not less than three hours.
Price Offering and Supply of Vuity
According to a biopharmaceutical giant, AbbVie, as reported by Business Insider, the first blurred near-vision eye treatment drop is offered at about $80 for a 30-day supply – a relatively fair bargain considering the positive health impact. The drops must be prescribed by a physician and are not currently covered by insurance.
