Hundreds of girl children and women gang-raped by Ethiopian and Eritrean Forces – Amnesty International

 

Amnesty International said in a statement on Wednesday that Ethiopian and Eritrean Forces subjected hundreds of girl children and women to sexual violence – rape, gang rape, sexual slavery, sexual mutilation, and other forms of torture, often using ethnic slurs and death threats, to perpetrate the crimes in Ethiopia’s war-torn Tigray region.

Agnès Callamard, Amnesty International’s Secretary-General, said in a statement that it was clear hundreds girl children and women have been subjected to rape, gang rape, and other sexual violence used as a weapon of war to inflict lasting physical and psychological damage – brutal treatment aimed at degrading and dehumanizing them. in Tigray, Ethiopia.

The widespread rape, gang-rape and other sexual violence carried out by members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), the Eritrean Defense Force (EDF), the Amhara Regional Police Special Force (ASF), and Fano, an Amhara militia group, according to the media report are being used as a deliberate weapon of war in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region.
