Cash-strapped Pakistan has urged its countrymen to cut down the consumption of tea to help reduce the import bill eating into the country’s fast-depleting foreign exchange reserves and faces loan burden.
The appeal from Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal came after it emerged that Pakistan consumed tea worth ₹ 83.88 billion (USD 400 million) in the fiscal year 2021-22, The News International newspaper reported.
“I appeal to the nation to cut down the consumption of tea by 1-2 cups because we import tea on loan,” Mr. Iqbal said while speaking to reporters in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The world’s smallest portable toilet, the PocketToilet, produced by Kokenawa Inc., a startup based in Nagoya, Japan is a real-life saver when nature calls. It helps queues of people in front of traditional portable toilets.
It’s a 7 cm long and 6.5 cm wide pack that can fit into almost any pocket or purse.
The virtual toilet consists of a bag made of special, durable fibers and a pack of coagulants. The bag can fit in a woman’s bag, tucked into a toilet seat or trash can. The bag emits almost no odor when left with feces inside the house for a week.
