Aliko Dangote, the Nigerian business magnate, investor, and owner of the Dangote Group will receive a doctorate degree from Usmanu Danfodio University (UDU) Sokoto on Saturday alongside three two other prominent Nigerians.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Abdullahi Abdu Zuru revealed this while making a speech at a pre-convocation briefing on Tuesday 9th April.
Prof Abdullahi Abdu Zuru said Alhaji Aliko Dangote will be honoured with a Doctor of Science (D.Sc), honoris causa; the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar will be honoured with Doctor of Laws (LLD) and Sheikh Muhammad Mujtaba Isah T/ Mafara will be honoured with Doctor of Letters (D.Litts).
Prof. Zuru further disclosed that in the postgraduate category, one hundred and thirty-five would receive Ph.D, seven hundred and seventy – Masters Degree, and ninety-six – PGD. Ten thousand, nine hundred and ninety-four would receive first degree, two hundred and eighty-seven will receive diploma and three hundred and forty-seven would be awarded unclassified degree for the undergraduate category.
At the combined 35th, 36th and 37th convocation events for the 2015/2016, 2016/2016 and 2017/2018 academic sessions respectively, a total of twelve thousand, two hundred and eighty-two graduates would be awarded various degrees and diploma.
In the occasion, five thousand, two hundred and seventy-eight would be receive their certificates for 2015/2016, four thousand seven hundred and twenty-four for 2016/2017 while two thousand, two hundred and eighty for 2017/2018 academic sessions, the vice-chancellor said.
In a like manner, one hundred and nine students will receive various prizes having performed excellently well in their respective fields, Prof Abdullahi Abdu Zuru hinted.
His Royal Highness Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi and Prof. Muhammad Tijjani Bande, United Nations (UN) Permanent Representative, both of whom had retired from the university, will be conferred Vice Chancellor (VC) Emeritus and Professor Emeritus honours degrees.
