China’s schoolchildren to learn ‘President Xi Jinping’ Thought Education’ course introduced into the curriculum
China’s schoolchildren are to begin learning the ‘President Xi Jinping Thought Education’ Course introduced into the curriculum at all schooling stages from Tuesday in further reforms to the education system, a report says.
‘President Xi Jinping Thought’ was formally adopted as among the Communist Party’s guiding philosophies in 2017.
Of the three Represents, Xi Jinping is the first to be given equivalent status to Mao Zedong Thought, using the same term (sixiang) in preference to the duo of Deng Xiaoping Theory and Jiang Zemin’s Doctrine. The attribution of theoretical advances to each Chinese leader since Mao has been traditional.
This was a build-up on a decree that introduced “labour education” into the schooling system last year, with pupils and students being required to undertake tasks from domestic chores to on-campus labour and provision of community services.
