Mr Zhang Pengfei, the principal of Xi Guan Primary School in Zhengping St, Linyi Xian County, Dezhou Shi, Shandong Sheng Province, North China had observed that the school children were losing interest in their traditional workout routine, After learning the ‘shuffle’ routine himself he taught the pupils at Xi Guan Primary School in Linyi county. The shuffle dance routine is now a regular feature at the school.
The Chinese Ministry of Education requires students in middle schools and primary schools to have at least 25 to 30 minutes of exercise time. Xi Guan Primary School, Linyi, promoted the practice of calisthenics but Principal Zhang Pengfei soon realised that students weren’t interested about the activity. So the principal decided to introduce ‘shuffle dance’ instead as a substitute to calisthenics into the students’ routine.
Principal Zhang Pengfei learnt the dance routine in not more than two months and went further to convey a survey at the school to get the number of students who were interested in the dance. He also invited a professional shuffle dance group to perform at school to find out how the students would react.
In a short while the whole school began practicing shuffle dance during their break and the school students now look forward to dancing it. The principal and school teachers believe the dance has also benefited the students in the area of their physical fitness.
