Free Quality Education Imperative in Nigeria – Babalakin
Free quality education is imperative in Nigeria to make learning accessible and create room for Nigerian people to be able to pay for it, the Chairman of the Agreement Renegotiation Committee of Nigerian Universities, Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN), said. He made this known during the weekend, calling for free education to enable Nigerian citizens afford and have access to quality education that is also inclusive.
He hinted that there is need for Government not to sacrifice good and quality education to quantity. Right on the same matter, the former Chairman of the Association of Pro-Chancellors in Nigeria also called for restructuring of education. This restructuring ought to be done in the secondary schools and tertiary Institutions as it would enhance production of employable graduates so as to make the country regain her respect among other nations.
He noted that free quality education has become indispensable considering the current position of Nigeria’s best university currently ranking 800th in the World. He stated this while presenting his speech at the Kwara State University (KWASU) at Malete in Moro Local Government Area during their seventh convocation lecture, noting clearly that Nigeria has to start its education system all afresh.
The eminent lawyer, Dr. Wale Babalakin, in his speech, pinpointed the need for Federal and State Government to channel proper funds towards the enhancement of schools. He said that funding of the secondary school system of education will lead to producing quality university graduates.
Due to the backwardness in the Nigerian System of Education, the Chairman called on the Government at both state and Federal level to man up and allocate more funds towards promoting the quality of Nigeria’s Educational System, basically at secondary and tertiary institutions to ensure they meet global education standards for production of employable university graduates.
