House of Representative wants to partner with Finland on Education

Gbajabiamila says the government determined to build a solid foundation for future education

… says Nigeria has spent about N620b on education in Nigeria, but still short of the United Nations (UN) recommendations for developing countries of between 15-20%

Finland reputed as the most literate country in the world.

Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, The Speaker of the House of Representatives has restated the resolve of the legislative government to partner with stakeholders to reposition Nigeria’s education as one of the best in the world.

According to Gbajabiamila, education has always been of top importance to the government which is determined to build a solid foundation for future education.

The Speaker of House of Representatives spoke on Thursday while hosting the Finland Ambassador to Nigeria, Jyrki Pulkkinen, where he noted that the House of Representatives is taking governmental steps aimed at propelling Nigerian into one of the top educationally advanced countries in the world.

Pulkkinen had informed the Speaker about the intended working visit of Finland’s House Committee on Finance to Nigeria next month on a working visit directed at sharing ideas.

Jyrki Pulkkinen, Finland Ambassador to Nigeria, noted that Finland is globally noted for its strides in education and technology is also reputed as the most literate country in the world.

He said the country is looking at partnering with Nigeria in education as the most populated country in Africa.

While appreciating Finland’s strides in technology, and education, the House of Representative Speaker said Finland is known for its education and Nigerians are willing to share in its success in order to a solid education foundation for the future of Nigerians.

Gbajabiamila recounted that Bills and motions on the education sector have been proposed and moved and sponsored and passed on the floor of the House on pumping public sector money into funding education and making education a fundamental human right.

He said that even though Nigeria has spent about N620b on education in Nigeria, but still short of the United Nations (UN) recommendations for developing countries of between 15-20%.
