
NECO drives towards self-sufficiency


The Acting Registrar, National Examinations Council (NECO), Abubakar Gana, has said the council drives towards self-sufficiency without relying on Federation Account Allocation because council has been managing its resources prudently.

Abubakar Gana made the statement during the agency’s budget defence before the Senate Committee on Basic Education in Abuja. Every year NECO receives an appropriated amount as federal allocation with which it runs the agency affairs.
The registrar called for the support of the Senate to enable NECO drives towards the targeted the self-sufficiency.
The Acting Registrar expressed determination to deepen the gains the agency received within his stint in office. He stated that the agency under his administration was poised to take its place as a transparent body.
The NECO boss stated his desire improve on the reforms by the agency so that the allotted funds for the agency as presented to the National Assembly will be judiciously implemented.
The Committee Chairman, Sen. Aliyu Wamako, praised the agency for effectively deploying and utilising federal allocation disbursed to it for the conduct of examinations across the country.
At the time of stating that NECO learnt from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, by judicious management of its resources, Senator Aliyu Wamako showed certainty in the agency to further ensure that its appropriation for 2019 is to reasonably used.
Last week, The National Examinations Council (NECO) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) had planned to collaborate to checkmate examination malpractice during upcoming the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Mr Azeez Sani, NSCDC’s Head, Information and Public Relations Division, in a statement said such collaboration help so well in ensuring the credibility of the Council’s examination and strengthen the existing relationship between the two agencies.
He further explained that the Examination Council has constituted measures to check examination malpractice and urged NSCDC staff to prepare for new challenges that may come up during the examination.
