Abia State government of Nigeria has recalled 5,853 sacked teachers on Tuesday. The state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, said that the state government had concluded plans to recall the sacked teacher.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by the State Chief of State, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere, said that the decision to reabsorb the sacked teachers was informed by the need to fill the vacant teaching positions in schools across the state.
The state government said that they would reabsorb 33% of the sacked teachers into the education stream and then the rest will follow gradually but revealed that there is a possibility of moving some of the absorbed workers to other sectors.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu also hinted that the recalling exercise would be done strategically in line with the employment guidelines of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to that the assignment of the workers would cut across all the local government areas of the state.
It can be recalled that the state government sacked the teachers earlier this year after claiming that they were illegally employed by the Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB) into the civil service.
He regretted that the government gave waivers for the employment of 187 teachers but the Board exceeded the quota and employed 5,853 teachers instead.
Abia State government, having lamented on the recent employment racketeering at the SEMB, further stressed the need for the government officials to work within the scope of their duties and avoid embarrassing the government through their unguarded actions.
