Schools to remain closed until the next academic year
President Trump also said that he thought it was something, the US Vice President Mike Pence can seriously consider and perhaps get going on it.
Many states have already recommended against resuming the school year as the coronavirus outbreak continues to keep the country on lockdown with more than 60,000 deaths already recorded.
CNN also reported that 43 states including New York, California, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC, have recommended that schools don’t reopen this academic year until fall which is in September and some other states such as California, South Dakota and Tennessee have only recommended that local authorities continue supporting students through distance education resource models.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the US National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases had earlier in April described the plans for school reopening as unpredictable.
Dr. Fauci said that he couldn’t accurately predict — that by the time they got to the fall, that the US would have this under control enough by fall and certainly would not be the way it was when schools closure prevailed all around.
Fauci also noted that identifying, testing, and tracing those who have coronavirus would make much difference and many health experts believe that ramping up a testing regime is a prerequisite to schools reopening including other economic activities.
As President Trump and other COVID-19 task force officials also outlined the administration’s testing blueprint, a copy of the blueprint stated that US state governors are expected to develop testing plans and rapid response programs as well as maximize the use of all available testing platforms and venues.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy also appealed to Trump on the call for direct funding of states on behalf of first responders, hinting that there would need to keep the firefighters, the police, the teachers, the EMS folks on the payroll at least for the next few months amidst a huge unemployment challenge facing the country due to coronavirus disease pandemic.
