Eduonwheels’ Latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) UK News – Tuesday, 1 February 2023:
There are two forms of COVID – long and acute which differ markedly. There are differences in the symptoms of Long COVID and Acute COVID, in today Coronavirus News, UK.
An estimated 2.1 million people in the UK (3.3 per cent of the population) were experiencing self-reported long Covid as of early December 2022, the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show, according to inews COVID UK News.
According to scientists, building the evidence base regarding typical long COVID-19 symptoms will help improve diagnosis and treatment, according to the European Journal of Epidemiology.
Scientists said they had identified three types of long Covid, each with a unique set of symptoms.
The largest group was those with neurological symptoms such as fatigue and brain fog, with separate groups for those suffering breathing problems and symptoms including changes to hair and skin, vaccination status not considered
The UCL studies included information on between 16 and 28 symptoms reported across 15 months of the pandemic, from July 2020 to September 2021. Some symptoms such as a runny nose or sneezing were not more common in those with or without COVID, or those reporting long COVID, suggesting they are not COVID-19-specific.

Unvaccinated COVID patients retain a greater risk of death and cardiovascular disease for at least 18 months after infection, new research suggests, in our today’s coronavirus UK News.
The fact that the research took place in 2020, it only takes into account people who had not been vaccinated at the time they were infected with COVID, however, the sheer number of people who fell ill in the first wave, the study’s authors say, can still help evaluate future outbreaks
According to the UK COVID-19 News, those who caught the disease between March and November 2020 were found to be up to 81 times more likely to die within the first three weeks of infection.
And they remained up to five times more likely to die than uninfected people a year and a half later.
Patients also had a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease, again up to 18 months after infection, which researchers say forms part of long COVID.
This included coronary heart disease, heart failure and deep vein thrombosis.

Eduonwheels’ Latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) UK News – Sunday, 29 January 2023
UK government has planned to give Coronavirus boosters to people who are most at risk from COVID in the spring and autumn, in our COVID-19 News blog.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has advised that a group of people, such as those who are older or are immunosuppressed, should get an extra booster in the spring, according to the Sky UK Coronavirus News report.
The report added that “emergency surge vaccine responses” to target more people could be needed if a new variant emerges that is different enough from Omicron.
The 2022 COVID autumn booster programme launched back in early September, and since then more than 82% of people aged 75 and over have received the jab and a total of 64.5% of those aged 50 and over have also had a booster vaccination.
In England, the closure of the current autumn booster campaign and the first booster offer will be on 12 February 2023 and everyone who is eligible to receive the dose has been “strongly” encouraged to come forward before then, the UK News report concluded.

Eduonwheels’ Latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) UK News – Thursday, 5 January 2023: As the new coronavirus cases linked to the newest sub-variant XBB.1.5 continues to rise in the UK, what do you need to know about XBB.1.5 sub-variant, in our latest trending UK COVID News report?
What is new about COVID-19 variants in the UK and the rest of the world?
Omicron COVID variant which itself followed the earlier alpha, beta, gamma and delta variants outperforming all previous versions of coronavirus since it emerged in late 2021, and has given rise to many sub-variants which are even more contagious than the original, including XBB.1.5
What is XBB.1.5?
XBB.1.5 itself, evolved from XBB as a sub-variant of COVID-19, began circulating in the UK in September 2022 but is yet to be classified as a so-called “variant of concern” by UK health authorities. XBB.1.5 is yet another offshoot of the globally dominant Omicron COVID-19 variant.
Is XBB.1.5 more infectious or dangerous than earlier variants?
Scientists from the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on Wednesday that XBB.1.5 has a “growth advantage” above all other sub-variants seen so far, according to BBC Coronavirus UK News report.
But they said there was no indication it was more serious or harmful than previous Omicron variants.
The WHO said it would keep a close watch on lab studies, hospital data and infection rates to find out more about its impact on patients.
What are the symptoms of XBB.1.5?
XBB had a mutation that helped it beat the body’s immune defences, but this same quality also reduced its ability to infect human cells, according to the latest report. However, symptoms of the COVID XBB.1.5 sub-variant are thought to be similar to those of previous Omicron strains, but it’s still too early to confirm this. Most people experience cold-like symptoms.
Could the XBB.1.5 variant take off in the UK?
Yes, it is likely owed to the variant is thought to constitute at least 4 per cent of COVID-19 viruses being sequenced in the UK.
Prof Paul Hunter from the University of East Anglia, said: “The balance of probabilities is that XBB.1.5 will trigger a wave here later this month, but we can’t be sure.”, and Prof Barclay said she expected more hospitalisations in the UK if the variant takes off here, “as we expect it to do”.
Figures for the week to Saturday 17 December from the Sanger Institute in Cambridge suggested that one in 25 COVID-19 cases in the UK were XBB.1.5.
Don’t forget that The UK had five Omicron waves in 2022, and further spikes in cases are inevitable.
Which countries are experiencing the spread of XBB.1.5 more?
The new coronavirus sub-variant XBB.1.5 is causing some concern in the US, where it is spreading rapidly. COVID hospital admissions have been rising in recent weeks across the US.
Over 40% of Covid cases in the United States are estimated to be caused by XBB.1.5, making it the dominant strain in the country
The XBB subvariant has been found in around 70 countries and caused Covid case surges in places like Singapore and India in October 2022, according to the World Health Organization.

Scientists in the UK have described the coronavirus COVID-19 cases tests U-turn on travellers from China by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as a political move, according to one of our latest coronavirus (COVID-19) news UK.
Rishi Sunak’s decision to perform a U-turn and impose COVID-19 cases test checks on travellers from China was dismissed on Saturday night as a purely political manoeuvre that would make no difference to the rise or fall of cases in the UK, the Guardian News gathered.
The health secretary Steve Barclay was briefed by the chief medical officer Chris Whitty on Thursday and was told there was no clear evidence of significant benefits from testing travellers from China and scientists speaking to the Observer agreed with Whitty that screening people coming from China would make little difference as COVID-19 cases rise were already very high in the UK and since 60% of the coronavirus infection cases were not detected by point-of-entry and point-of-exit screening during the outbreak, according to the news report from the Guardian.

Eduonwheels’ Latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) UK News – Sunday, 1 January 2023
The UK Government has said that it still reviewing the situation of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) travel restrictions news, according to one of our latest coronavirus (COVID-19) news UK.
Sky COVID-19 UK News reports that UK Health Minister Will Quince said that while the UK government is keeping the situation “under review”, the “key threat” was the potential for the emergence of new variants. However, Professor Andrew Pollard, the chairman of the Joint Committee on Coronavirus (COVID-19) Vaccination and Immunisation, said the imposition of travel restrictions in the UK was unlikely to prove effective in stopping variants reaching the country.
The cause of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) travel restrictions is the coronavirus (covid-19) cases rising in China, according to a UK news source, prompting the UK and many other countries – US, and EU countries – France, Spain, Italy to be at alert to avoid the latest covid-19 impending pandemic.
According to the UK news source on the new COVID-19 travel restrictions, coronavirus infections have risen sharply across China in December after Beijing scrapped its zero-COVID policies, including regular PCR testing on its population.
There are fears that the end of almost three years of strict measures in the country of 1.4 billion people could result in a massive spread of the disease worldwide after China said this week that it would end mandatory quarantine on arrival, prompting many Chinese people to make plans to travel overseas.
This is how the above countries are keeping a tight leach about their new coronavirus (COVID-19) travel restrictions. Countries imposing coronavirus travel restrictions or considering controls cite a lack of information from China on variants and are concerned about a wave of infections.

According to the Sky coronavirus (COVID-19) news report, the UK Health Security Agency will stop publishing COVID modelling data next month, January 2023 after almost three years.
Thanks to coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines and therapeutics, the increasingly sporadic updates on the virus’s R number will cease in the UK from 6 January, with it deemed “no longer necessary’
The coronavirus (COVID-19)’s reproductive rate, R number, which referred to the number of people an infected person will pass the disease on to, debuted back in May 2020 in the UK and was published weekly during the peak of the pandemic, according to the news report.
Since April 2021, the COVID-19 R number only referred to England rather than the UK as a whole, and since April 2022, it has been updated fortnightly instead of every week.
Along with the daily COVID cases in UK and death numbers, it helped give the public an idea of how prevalent the virus was.
