University of Education will soon be established in Enugu State.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Tuesday performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the administrative building of the first University of Education in the South East geo-political zone, Enugu State University of Education, Awgu L.G.A. The ceremony was greeted by jubilation and excitement from the public.

The University though will serve as a training ground for primary, secondary and tertiary education teachers would be an education degree-awarding institution.

The approval for the new university’s establishment was given by Gov. Ugwuanyi recently which was followed by the award of the construction contract of the administrative building last week by the State Executive Council.

While performing the ceremony, the governor expressed delight and satisfaction that the quest for the establishment of the University corresponds with his administration’s commitment to providing and enhancing better access to tertiary education. It is also a way of arousing interest in knowledge, productivity and industrious engagement  among the teeming youths in Enugu State.

The state governor reiterated his promise to continue to render selfless services to indigenes of Enugu State with the fear of God and also ensure that opportunities for expansion were extended to every part of the state. He clearly stated his administration’s plan to invigorate the Awgu Games Village as part of its agreed efforts to change the council area for better services.

He appreciated the Awgu people and the leaders and stakeholders of Awgu LGA. He also appreciated the State Ministry of Education and other actors in the education sector, for their interest and support towards the project.

The State Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr Stanley Okeke; The Traditional Ruler of the and Chairman of Awgu Traditional Rulers’ Council, Chief Alex Ogbonna, Igwe Goddy Ekoh, among others, appreciated the governor for his foresight and dedication towards the establishment of the University, adding that the measure will promote the quality of education in the state and the socio-economic development of the area.
