The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) with its headquarters in Accra, Ghana even as of 2020.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), a non-profit-making examination-conducting organization, was established in 1952 after the Governments of Ghana (then Gold Coast), Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia enacted the West African Examinations Council Ordinances in 1951. Liberia later became a member of the Council in 1974.

 

Objectives of WAEC Ghana

The two main objectives of the Council are to conduct examinations in the public interest and to award certificates, provided that the certificates did not represent lower standards of attainment than equivalent certificates of examining authorities in the United Kingdom (UK)

The West African Examination Council, WAEC Ghana has published the Timetable for West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), BECE, ABCE, and GBCE 2020/2021 (May-June/Nov-Dec) timetable for School and Private candidates.

WAEC Ghana Exam Date 2020

The 2020 WAEC Ghana West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) timetable for school candidates, revealed that the exam date was scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2020, with Project Work for Visual Arts candidates, according to the Ghana Education Service (GES) re-opening plan for all categories of students.

The theory papers of the five-week-long school candidates’ examination date would run from August 3, 2020, through September 5, 2020 – the last paper being Principles of Cost Accounting and Technical Drawing.

WAEC Ghana Index Number for 2020 Examination

You don’t know how to get your WAEC Ghana 2020 Index Number and might be asking the question, ‘How do I get and verify my WAEC Ghana Index Number 2020?’

What is WAEC Index Number?

The WAEC Index Number is a 10 digit number issued by WAEC Ghana to a WASSCE candidate as a unique identifier.

The Index Number is a requirement before a candidate is allowed to sit for an exam. A candidate who registered for his or her WAEC November/December 2020 exam in Ghana needs it for result-checking also. Any candidate who gets his or her Index Number needs to verify it too.

How to get WAEC Ghana Index Number and verify it for 2020 Examination

We have stated that the WAEC Ghana Index Number can be obtained by a candidate that has completed the WAEC Registration as generated by WAEC. The number would be made available online from the 5th of August 2020.

The candidate will be required to provide his or her WAEC PIN/invoice Number to obtain the Index Number and Admission Notice on the stated date in order to get and verify his Index Number

A candidate can successfully obtain his or her WAEC Ghana Index Number and complete the process of verifying the Index Number for taking the examination following the procedure below

Procedures on how to get WAEC Ghana Index Number

– Sign in to the WAEC Ghana registration portal. Click here to login

In the section provided, enter your Application Invoice Number

Click on the button ‘Continue’ to get your Index Number.

Send the web document to the printer to print your Index Number for reference purposes.

How to deal with Error Message when getting the Index Number for 2020 Examination

Ignore a warning error message and continue with the procedure to get the Index Number. The warning error message is usually associated with candidates who are using Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox as the web browser installed on the device.

OR

The candidate registering for an examination can click on the details of the warning error message and continue or resume the application process on the WAEC Ghana website

The candidate proceeds by entering his Application Invoice Number to finally generate or get the WAEC Ghana index number for the 2020 examination.

How to verify the Index Number

After getting or obtaining the Index Number, the next step is to verify it. How can a WAEC candidate verify his or her Index Number after obtaining it following the procedure states above?

Verify your WAEC Ghana Index Number following these steps:

– Sign in to the WAEC registration portal. Click here to sign in

– Enter your obtained Index Number or Application Invoice Number in the field provided.

– Enter your name and date of birth in the respective sections as required

– Click on the ‘Continue’ button to access and verify your WAEC Index Number.

WAEC Ghana Result Checker 2020/2021

Procedure for using result checker to check the results of an examination

– Enter your Index Number.

– Select the Type of Examination (e.g.  WASSCE)

– Select your Examination Year, like selecting 2020.

– Enter the Serial Number found on the Voucher.

– Enter the 12-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) on your Voucher. For example 987654321539.

– Confirm your Index Number and Examination Year to ensure the correctness of the information provided

– Click on Submit and wait for the display in the popup window. This might take several minutes.

What is Service Delivery Type?

Service Delivery Type means the type of WAECDIRECT online service you wish to access. Three types of services are available. Namely:
1. Result Checker service: This allows candidates to access and view their WAEC results online.
2. Result Confirmation: This allows candidates to request for their WAEC results to be sent to them by post.
3. Result Verification: This allows candidates or organizations or institutions to request that their results should be verified and the result of verification sent to them by post.

What is a PIN?

The PIN stands for Personal Identification Number. The PIN is found on a valid WAECDIRECT online scratch card, it is a unique 12-digit number that is required to access the service in WAECDIRECT. The service enables direct access to a candidate’s results and also allows requests for result confirmation and verification. The PIN is revealed when the cover patch on the reverse side of the card is carefully scratched off.

What is a WAEC scratch card?

A scratch card is a plastic card with a scratch patch on the reverse side that conceals a PIN (Personal Identification Number) required to access the WAECDIRECT online service. The scratch card applicable for the WAECDIRECT service is marked “WAECDIRECT ……Access Card” on the face.

Where can I buy a WAEC scratch card?

A WAEC scratch card is available for purchase at the National Office, WAEC Ghana, and at any of its council offices across Ghana. From time to time it may become available at any other outlets so designated by WAEC.

How many times can I check my results with one WAEC scratch card?

A candidate can check his or her results up to a maximum of 3 times with 1 scratch card. On the other hand, you can request for result confirmation or result verification once with 1 (one) scratch card i.e. 3 (three) units on the card for use.

Can I use one Scratch card for more than one result?

Not at all! You may only use one scratch card with only one result. To either check, confirm or verify another result of interest, you will require a new scratch card.

What information is available on this service?

The following information is available on the WAECDIRECT service: WASSCE (School) and WASSCE (Private) results and Addresses of Council’s Offices of WAEC.
