
Wife of Muhammadu Buhari plans for new private varsity


Wife of Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, has expressed her plans to set up a private university. The name of the university will be “Muhammadu Buhari University”.
She made this known on Saturday in Yola on Saturday during a town hall meeting she organized in collaboration with concerned indigenes of Adamawa State.
She disclosed that she would partner collaboratively with partners from Sudan and Qatar to establish the university even though she did not specify time of establishment and the proposed location.
In lamenting the challenges the state faces in education and other various sectors, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari demanded for influential support from indigenes of the state in complementing the efforts of the government in building formidable education system in the state.
She concluded by suggesting the manner in which they could support the government in its efforts to achieve some if its millennium developmental goals.
One of the ways she suggested that would complement government’s effort was the establishment of Adamawa Development Trust Fund through which developmental projects of priority could be initiated, financed and implemented.
Ambassador Fati Ballah, who was in attendance, asked the people of the state to practice forgiveness and reconciliation among themselves. He further called for the establishment of committee that would come up with a robust plan for the development of the state.
Speaking on agricultural matters, during the meeting, Alhaji Sadiq Daware stated clearly that eighty percent of the land mass in the state was fertile and suitable for farming activities. He further emphasized that Benue River can offer huge opportunity for irrigation that can support farming activities all year round. Benue River, the second longest river in Nigeria, passes through the state.
NAN reported that Prof. Shehu Iya of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Prof. Auwal Abubakar of Federal Medical Centre, Yola, Mallam Umar Abubakar, Gen. Buba Marwa, Sen. Silas Zwingina, Dr Umar Bindir as well as politicians from different parties in the state attended the meeting.
