New COVID-19 wave emerging in Europe – WHO and How it is emerging
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC), a new wave of COVID-19 infections is spreading in Europe, in one of our latest posts in COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Health Education.
“Although we are not where we were one year ago, it is clear that the COVID-19 pandemic is still not over,” the WHO’s Europe director, Hans Kluge, and the ECDC’s director, Andrea Ammon, said in a joint statement on Wednesday
“We are unfortunately seeing indicators rising again in Europe, suggesting that another wave of infections has begun,” they said.

How’s the new COVID-19 virus emerging in Europe as claimed by WHO? WHO regional data shows that only Europe recorded an increase in COVID-19 cases in the week ending October 2, recording an 8% increase from the previous week.
WHO and ECDC have noted that millions of people across Europe are still unvaccinated against COVID-19. They urge European countries to administer both influenza and COVID-19 vaccines before the number of seasonal flu cases spike.
Dr. Anthony Fauci had on Friday last week given a sober warning for Americans as regards COVID infections this approaching winter season: Don’t be surprised if a new, more deadly Covid variant emerges this coming winter. Fauci pointed out that in the summer of 2021, when the US saw similar weak pandemic trends, only when the omicron variant emerged and caused the record spike in last winter. Since then, a number of omicron additives have spread and become dominant in the United States.
“We should anticipate that we very well may get another variant that would emerge, that would elude the immune response that we’ve gotten from infection and/or from vaccination,” Fauci said at an event with the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism this week.
