Saturday, 18th March 2023: Scientists have tested the first-ever method to fix broken heart syndrome in Eduonwheels’ today’s blog post on scientific research news
According to the scientific research news reported by Geo TV, the scientific researchers at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland are conducting tests for physiological therapy that may help fix a broken heart.
In the trials, 90 Scottish volunteers will be diagnosed with broken heart syndrome, also known as ‘Takotsubo cardiomyopathy’ after either participating in a personalised exercise condition or cognitive behavioural therapy or skipping both activities, according to the scientific research news report.
Participants will take part in the exercises or activities for three weeks of the doctors’ diagnosis and the research scientists will examine heart conditions after three months in the study expected to last for three years.
Dr. Dana Dawson, a professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Aberdeen and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI), said: “After so long spent researching this condition, it is great to be taking this huge step towards developing a standardised treatment for it and we look forward to seeing the results in due course.”
The professor of medicine further reiterated that her team needed to develop a high-quality evidence base to guide clinicians in the management of this broken-heart condition.”
What is Broken heart syndrome or Takotsubo cardiomyopathy?
Broken heart syndrome, also known as stress cardiomyopathy or takotsubo syndrome, occurs when a person experiences sudden acute stress that can rapidly weaken the heart muscle.
Dr. David Gamble, a member of British Heart Foundation Cardiology Research Fellows and a doctor at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI), in a university release, said that Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, or broken heart syndrome, remains a comparatively poorly understood condition.
What are the Effects of Broken heart syndrome?
People with broken heart syndrome may have sudden chest pain or think they’re having a heart attack. Broken heart syndrome affects just part of the heart. It briefly interrupts the way the heart pumps blood. The rest of the heart continues to work as usual.
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy affects thousands of people each year, the majority of them are women and approximately one to two percent of those diagnosed with this condition are likely to experience heart attacks
Dr. Dana Dawson said that being heartbroken affects men and women differently and should be treated as such.
