Meaning of Creativity and innovation

Creativity and innovation refers to transformation of insights into reality that is acceptable to others. Creativity connotes the reality and innovation insights in this contextual framework.

The former is about bringing something into existence and latter is a new idea, creative thought or new imagination. The art and science of defeating the habit of originality is the foundation of creativity.

Innovation in its modern meaning is application of creative memories and thoughts to meet special needs. Giving such meaning to innovation justifies its correlation to creativity in all indications and definition of the both skills as a single term.

The Nature of Creativity

Creativity is a complex task and one creative idea won’t be enough to handle a project. Different ideas fit into different projects in diverse ways in a network of complexity just like in applying problem-solving skills.

Creativity is far beyond artistic and graphic design. It is more to having a graphic design job or becoming a high graphic design salary earner with a firm cherishing your creative memories.

A creative person needs knowledge and skills, experience, motivation and determination, spirited effort within a defined space of time to succeed in turning possibilities into reality.

The power in Creativity and Innovation

The world is evolving daily and new technologies are evidently redefining people, resources and our problems – making problems more difficult to solve and making us struggle the more for survival – a grievous situation that creativity can lighten up for us.

Dealing with the current realities will spur us to quest for new ideas. Gone are the days when routine, analytical and traditional approaches alone offer us satisfactory solution to our problems

Many more organizations than ever now offer innovation training to people taking them through the courses to gain rudimentary skills in how to generate ideas and apply them as a problem-solving skillto solve our complex-becoming problems.

Children and youths of today need to be encouraged to explore the world by creating global insights on innovation solution and make the much anticipated difference.

How to become creative and innovation

1. Through production of stimuli and tying them to a problem. A stimulus can be related or unrelated to the problem. Related stimulus has a direct connection to the problem whereas unrelated doesn’t have. For example, a designer can remodel a computer hardware to remove the flaws in the physical components (related stimulus) while a designer can redesign the dashboard of a car to look like a laptop computer (unrelated stimulus)

2. By comparing different problem elements placed side by side to generate ideas. Backward reversal activities of some aspects of a problem produce different perspectives and new ideas. Using reversals as stimulators, renovating of reversal assumptions can create an idea about a problem. Use analogies to generate ideas and provide innovation solutions.

3. Using ‘What if?’ question to trigger a new idea from an already-existing one.

4.  Brainstorming and brainwriting. Brainstorming is to generate ideas verbally in a group. Brainwriting is to generate ideas in written format in a group just as their names suggest. Brainstorming explores on different methods and generates ideas for creating something new.

Team members must defer all criticism and judgement and avoid patterned thinking during the collaborative brainstorming. Negative statements like ‘This isn’t going to work’, is counter-productive. The brainstorming or brainwriting team members test assumptions and take prudent risks towards creating a new thing bearing in mind that no one fails in an endeavour except if he fails to try again and again.

The goal of Creativity and Innovation

The mysticism about creative memories is development of critical thinking ability, technically-leveraging full potentials of the mind and applying the right attitude and technology to innovation solution.

Creativity and innovation redefines our way of doing things; solves our problems and reinvents our world of opportunities. We should consider problem-solving as a goal of creativity. The more creative and innovative we are, the more solution avenues will be at our disposal.

Coping in our rapidly changing environments characterised by complex and diverse elements require flexible and adaptable responses as provided by creative and innovative solution.
