Musk and Jeff Bezos asked to ‘act now‘ and provide $6 billion dollars to solve the world’s hunger problem

Musk responded to a repost of a CNN article that quoted David Beasley, the director of the UN’s World Food Program, who said billionaires need to “step up now”—namely Musk and Jeff Bezos and should “act now”. He responded on Sunday, according to Fox Business, to a request from social media users to sell shares to tackle global hunger.

Beasley specifically called for action by co-founders Musk and Amazon.com Inc.  Jeff Bezos, number one billionaire on Bloomberg. Beasley said that just $6 billion could save 42 million people from death.

“The $6 billion is to help the 42 million people who will literally die if we don’t reach them. It is not difficult,” he said.

Musk pointed out that things are not that simple. He responded to a post by an artificial intelligence researcher who pointed out that  The World Food Programme (WFP) raised $8.4 billion in 2020. He then asked, “Why couldn’t we solve the global hunger problem?” According to WFP’s website, the amount it needs is still $5.3 billion short. The agency did not immediately respond to emails from Fox News.

Musk tweeted that if the UN program can “describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it.” He called on transparent and open accounting.

He wrote about The World Food Program (WFP) request in a transparent and public report that “If I could accurately explain in this Twitter thread how $6 billion will solve global hunger, I would sell Tesla stock  and do so now.” … …

Musk responded to comments from the director of the UN World Food Programme, which repeated calls last week after a previous tweet calling on billionaires like Jeff Bezos and himself to “act now, one-off”.

The post sparked an online debate with some Democrats hoping it will help billionaires fund Biden’s Build Back Better bill and pay a “fair share”.
