  • Preschool Education: Early Childhood Education in form of kindergarten is available for children aged 3-5. Every child is expected to complete a year compulsory preschool education in Sri Lanka not beyond the age of 4.
  • Primary (Elementary) Education: Primary education in Sri Lanka covers grades 1-5. From the age of 5, a child begins his or her primary education made a legal obligation from Grade 1 and continues until 5 (aged 9-10) years with a graduation option of sitting for a Scholarship Examination. Sri Lankan elementary education is primarily funded and overseen by Ministry of Education and Department of Examinations under the Ministry of Education.
  • Secondary Education: The secondary education in Nepal is divided into 2 – Secondary and Collegiate. Secondary education includes grades 6-11 (for aged 10-16) and at Grade 11, the students are expected to sit for the G.C.E Ordinary Level Examination. The collegiate is run at Grades 12 and 13 (aged 16-18) and at 13, the students sit for G.C.E Advance Level Examination
  • Tertiary (Higher) Education: After completing secondary education and sitting for the GCE Advanced Level Examination, students can pursue higher education at universities and other institutions. Sri Lanka offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
  • Undergraduate education for bachelor’s degree in state universities is free but extremely competitive, limited, and standardized. Selection of students is done on the basis of rank order on average Z Scores obtained by candidates at the GCE Advanced Level Examination under a transparent national policy to replicate a district basis representation. Only the top students from each district receive admission. Higher education are primarily funded and overseen Ministry of Higher Education and Department of Examinations under the Ministry of Education
